About This Place
Guangmingcun Grand Restaurant, part of Shanghai Guangmingcun Industrial Co., Ltd., is located at 588 Huaihai Middle Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Its history dates back 70 years, when it was known as Guangmingcun Dim Sum Shop, famous for its specialty pastries and noodles, and served as a designated supplier of traditional specialties for the Shanghai Catering Company. On 29 October 1956, Huaihai Canteen was established at the current site; in the third quarter of 1958, the Luwan District Catering Service Company was founded; in January 1960, Huaihai Canteen became a state-owned unit and was officially renamed Guangmingcun Dim Sum Shop. In line with the district government’s plan to develop Huaihai Middle Road into a prosperous and elegant commercial street, and with approval from higher authorities, Guangmingcun Grand Restaurant underwent renovation. It closed for redevelopment on 22 July 1990 and reopened on 29 December 1993, officially adopting the name Guangmingcun Grand Restaurant.
