The Hualiang brand can be traced back to the Fifth Grain Shop of the Luwan District Grain Bureau in Shanghai, founded in 1949. It was part of the old Shanghai state-run grain shop system and specialized in flour products. Its signature items are wonton wrappers and dumpling wrappers made with black wheat flour. The black wrappers are made from unbleached whole-wheat flour using traditional methods. They are firmer, chewier, less likely to break after boiling, and hold the filling well. They keep the bran and germ, with a light wheat aroma, dietary fiber, and B vitamins, making them a more wholesome choice for people managing sugar intake or weight.
