Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant sits beside the Nine-Turn Bridge in Yuyuan Garden. Founded in 1871, it is a time-honored Chinese brand with over a century of history, and the craft of making Nanxiang xiaolongbao is a national intangible cultural heritage. The chefs make each dumpling by hand. The wrappers are thin yet springy, each bun has at least 16 folds, and the pork front-leg filling is paired with aspic to create rich soup inside. Popular choices include the signature pork, crab roe, and shrimp xiaolongbao, along with special snacks such as osmanthus rice cake. The restaurant has different floors for takeaway, dine-in, and private rooms. On the second floor, an open kitchen lets you watch the dumplings being made by hand—a classic Shanghai-style dim sum spot to visit in Shanghai.
