Gift Introduction
Banxia Yin is a splash-ink freehand painting I created as a visual short lyric dedicated to Li Qingzhao.
While working on it, I often thought of her line from “Uglier Magnolia Flower · Banana Leaves”: “Leaf by leaf, heart by heart — each unfurls with feeling.” The unfurling banana leaves, like the shape of a heart, speak to the many layers of her life — the radiant innocence of her youth and the quiet sorrow of her later years, all held within those overlapping shades of green.
I built the composition with layers of rich ink wash, using broad fields of blue and warm brown to evoke the morning haze of a spring courtyard — much like the “thin mist and dense clouds” she so often wrote about, wrapping the scene in a soft, lyrical atmosphere.
