Huxinting Teahouse is located at the center of the lotus pond beside the Zigzag Bridge in Shanghai’s Yuyuan Garden, and is known as “Shanghai’s No. 1 Teahouse.” Its origins can be traced back to Fuyi Pavilion in Yuyuan Garden during the Ming dynasty. It was rebuilt during the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty and became Shanghai’s earliest commercial teahouse during the Xianfeng period. The all-wood building, with its upturned eaves, complements the Zigzag Bridge and is a core landmark of Yuyuan Bazaar. The teahouse has hosted heads of state from several countries, including Queen Elizabeth II, and its tea art has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Huangpu District. After protective restoration, it reopened in July 2025. Today, the ground floor continues to offer accessible morning tea, while the second floor offers premium intangible-heritage tea drinks, continuing a century-old tea tradition through living conservation.
