Zhaofeng Garden Site (including the Marble Pavilion and Xianghua Bridge)

The Zhaofeng Garden Site, including the Marble Pavilion and Xianghua Bridge, is located at 780 Changning Road, Changning District, Shanghai (inside Zhongshan Park). In 1914, the Municipal Council purchased the garden and its neighbouring land, laying it out as the core of a scenic garden and botanical area. The site has since been expanded into Zhongshan Park, known for its natural scenery of mature trees, lawns, wooded hills and water features. It was listed as a Changning District cultural relic protection site on 5 April 2017.
The Marble Pavilion stands on the north side of the large lawn in Zhongshan Park and was donated by Mrs. Aisla, a foreign resident. Its columns, stone steps, flooring and overhead trellis are all made of white marble. A pair of marble flowerpots stands at the front, while the rear of the pavilion has two niches containing marble statues of Western goddesses. It was listed as an Outstanding Historic Building of Shanghai in 1999 and as a Changning District cultural relic protection site on 5 April 2017.
Xianghua Bridge originally stood in front of Fahua Temple in Fahua West Town. The temple was built by Monk Huichan in the tenth year of the Kaibao reign of the Northern Song dynasty (970). After Fahua Creek was filled in 1958, Xianghua Bridge in front of Fahua Temple was moved to Zhongshan Park. Built of stone, it is paved with three long stone slabs and includes stone pillars, stone handrails, stone panels and stone lions at the bridge entrance. A pair of granite-carved stone lions sits on either side of the south end of the bridge, seated with their heads turned to the side and finely carved details. It was listed as a Changning District cultural relic protection site on 5 April 2017.
