Shanghai-style New Year prints originated in Shanghai. They were first created using traditional fine-line brushwork with light or rich colors, and later gradually developed into a distinctive technique combining charcoal-powder rubbing and watercolor coloring. They carry fond Lunar New Year memories for older generations of Shanghainese.
