The Fahua Peony Grafting Technique can be traced back to the early Southern Song Dynasty. Luoyang flower growers who moved south developed an inlay grafting method to help peonies adapt to Jiangnan’s soil and climate, using single-petaled peony roots from Yangzhou as the rootstock and young Luoyang peony buds as the scion. This led to the cultivation of the Fahua peony, suited to the conditions of Jiangnan.
