About This Place
The Shanghai Textile and Costume Museum is located on the attractive Yan’an Road Campus of Donghua University. As a science popularization project approved by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, it was built by Donghua University with strong guidance and support from the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Changning District Government. It officially opened to the public on 5 January 2009 and has been designated as a “Shanghai Science Popularization Tourism Demonstration Base” and a “Shanghai Science Popularization Education Base”. The Shanghai Textile and Costume Museum was established on the basis of the former Donghua University Textile History Museum and Donghua University Costume Museum. It is currently the only museum in China that comprehensively presents the history, culture, and technological knowledge of Chinese textiles and dress.
