Egg carving is the art of incising patterns on eggshells, such as chicken eggs. It began as an ancient custom and was popular during the Cold Food Festival in the Six Dynasties and Tang dynasty periods. After the Ming and Qing dynasties, people drilled holes in eggs, emptied them, and carved intricate designs on the shell surface, eventually creating highly appreciable artistic treasures: egg-carving artworks.
