Mawangdui Wellness Moves Playing Cards

The design of this set of ‘Guan Dan’ playing cards draws inspiration from the *Daoyin Diagram* unearthed from the Mawangdui Han Tombs—one of the earliest surviving illustrated manuals of health-preserving exercises in China. The card faces reproduce the 44 Daoyin movements depicted in the original diagram, incorporating the millennia-old wisdom of ‘guiding the qi to harmony and guiding the body to suppleness’ into the card game. Amidst the fun of the game, the ancient understanding of movement, breathing and physical and mental well-being is subtly revealed. In a light-hearted and approachable manner, this deck transforms historical imagery into a cultural memento for everyday use, bringing the ancient diagrams from the museum truly into contemporary life.

Custom Service Introduction

Inspired by the earliest ancient Chinese illustrated manual on health and wellness—*The Daoyin Diagram*— the designs on the cards faithfully reproduce the 44 lifelike Daoyin postures depicted in the *Daoyin Tu*, incorporating the health-preserving wisdom of ‘guiding the qi to harmony and stretching the body to suppleness’ into the enjoyment of the *Duan Dan* game. This not only allows players to experience the thrill of competition but also enables them to appreciate the essence of traditional Chinese Daoyin practices from two thousand years ago, thereby breathing new life into traditional culture through entertainment.
